【 by far ：とびきり、はるかに、断然】

A：Guess what? Mike and Lisa get married next month!
B：Oh, really? That's by far the best news this year!
A：Yes! How about visiting them to celebrate this weekend?

A：知ってる？　マイクとリサが来月結婚するんだよ！
B：えっ、ホント？　それは今年のとびっきり最高のニュースだよね！
A：そう！　この週末、お祝いに彼らを訪ねてみない？

※比較級で使う場合は「This one is better by far than that one.（これの方があれより断然良い）」のように比較級のあとに付けて使います。また、theを伴う比較級の場合は「This one is by far the better.（これの方が断然よい）」のように前に付けて使います

【 by leaps and bounds ：急速に、とんとん拍子に】

A：You look so happy. Do you have any good news?
B：Well, my new business is getting better by leaps and bounds.
A：Oh, that's why you are smiling all day today.

A：とっても嬉しそうだけど、何かいいことあるの？
B：いやぁ、新規事業がとんとん拍子にうまくいっているんでね。
A：あぁ、それで今日は一日中にこにこしてるんだ。

※「a leap of faith（不注意な行動）」「a leap in the dark（無謀な行動、向こう見ずな行動）」という表現もいっしょに覚えておくと良いでしょう
