【 from ear to ear ：口端が両耳に届くほど】

A：Why are you smiling from ear to ear like that?
B：Because I'll see my girlfriend tonight after a long time!
A：Oh, really? Is she coming back from Germany?

A：どうしてそんなに満面の笑みになってるの？
B：今夜久し振りに彼女に会うからだよ！
A：えっ、ホント？彼女ドイツから返ってくるの？

※「after a long time（久し振りに）」という表現も一緒に覚えておきましょう

【 from hand to mouth ：その日暮らしで】

A：Let's get a drink for a change!
B：You know I'm leading a life from hand to mouth now...
A：Don't worry! It's on me.

A：たまには飲みに行こうよ！
B：僕が今その日暮らしの状態なの知ってるだろ・・・
A：心配するなよ！僕がおごるよ。

※同じhandを用いた表現に「out of hand（手に負えない）」があります

【 for one's own sake ：〜自身のために】

A：Ah, I really made a big mistake...
B：Are you OK? You look pale a little.
A：I've done it for my own sake, but now I regret it so much!

A：ああ、ホントに大きなミスをしちゃったよ・・・
B：大丈夫？ちょっと顔色が悪いよ。
A：自分自身のためにやったのに、今じゃ大後悔だよ！

※「for (the) sake of 〜」という語順で使用する場合もあります

【 for peanuts ：〜少しのお金で、〜はした金で】

A：How do you like this pot? This was made a long long time ago.
B：If it's true, I'll buy it for some money.
A：I can't sell you this for peanuts. How much do you pay for this?

A：この壺はどうだね？かなり昔に作られたものだよ。
B：もし本当なら、いくらかで買うよ。
A：はした金では売れないね。いくら出す？
